8th Annual Breakfast With Santa

Members of Iota Sweethearts, Inc. and Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. across the Atlantic Coast Region have been serving the community in need during the holiday season. From toy drives, to serving in soup kitchens preparing meals, to giving away blankets to the homeless, the Iota family has shown that they truly care about the community.

The holiday season is usually a time filled with lights, carols, and last minute shopping to get the perfect gift for the ones you love. Unfortunately for many, this time also serves as a harsh reminder of what they have lost, what they wish to gain, and what they wish they could have. Now more than ever, a warm smile, a hot meal, and a gift to a child from Santa can be very special. On December 19th, 2015, the brothers of the Chi Omega Alumni Chapter in Philadelphia, PA hosted their 8th Annual Breakfast With Santa.

Sweetheart Julienne Abelus assisted in the event, where they engaged the children and parents in board games, served them a hot breakfast and assisted Santa with giving away gifts. The presents ranged for children ages six months to 13. The gifts were wrapped the night before during the Annual Wrapping Party, which Chapter Polaris Jerell Johnson hosted this year. Over 50 toys were donated.

On a personal note, I love being able to give back, especially during the holidays. The partnership the brothers have with the Simon Rec Community Center is amazing, and their ability to impact the community bi-annually through the Halloween Safehouse and Breakfast With Santa events for over 7 years not only show the community that Iota cares, but that Iota is invested for the long haul, and not just for a photo-op. Being a sweetheart in Philly and having participated in this event since I became a heart over six years ago, I look forward to continuing to support the brothers with this endeavor and their partnership for years to come
